Posts

If you search in my previous posts , you’ll find enough details about this OB ;

Now just few general things – drivers used are Tannoy K3808 and Beyma SM115/N

Xover , still temporary (bean-counter’s drawer parts) , basically original Tannoy Pepperpot xover style with few changes and heavy iron choke for Beyma bass helper .

Baffle – multilayer of whatever I had , frame of square iron tubes , grills made of ply and anti-mosquito metal net/grid/whatever , fixed to spks through small Neo magnets.

I didn’t bought these ….. I had enough dead/bad HDDs , so just took Neos out and cut them in pieces with end- cutting nippers.

Sound …… not on par with my ref. RAC LC1B but certainly good enough for Audiophool Retirement (when one is becoming Musicaphile instead).

Still to do – final iteration of xover and fabric/cloth cover for back side …… but I’m not in a hurry ……

Started as shown here , what was pretty much generic/common Tannoy xover, for Pepperpot WG equipped units.

Now semi finished , still no measurements , only by ear and plenty of deduction , based on numerous web sources . However , it sounds like right step from original values , even still pretty much in Tannoy concept.

One day , hopefully soon , they’ll be finished in principle . Then making no hold barrels version , with ~ 3,8kg of copper for bass and tweet chokes ; maybe even DIY graphite rod resistors 😉 .

Beyma (bass helper) 9.2mH will stay as is – ancient EI core choke , 0.2Rdc .

Still to try air-core (so – no core) autoformer choke for Squawker , hoping that additional 1.5db will bring even more liveliness  .

No pics , just schematic .

Continuo from here ;

Still without measurements , just playing with data from various web sources , LTSpice and bunch of parts

K3809 as main driver , K3833(K3836) as bass helper

K3809 are mine , while K3833(K3836) , stars of previous blog entries  are prepared for SuperFi’s Westminster project .

Just having fun with some old OB “wood” , gift from Chakija ( he’s not feeling young enough to continue playing with them 😉 )

Disclaimer – I really wasn’t expecting real bass ……. that’s max width I can squeeze in living room , where spks must be situated ; also , MJK OB software didn’t predicted it (bass)

But !! – there is bass , at least in my smallish living room ; sound is remarkable , even with crude and quick xover , without any efforts put in measurements and polishing of same ; OB is far from optimal in almost every area , but it is so fun …..
